本書は前述のマリーネスの著書に対する答弁である。著者ミス・セルデンは、マリーネスの外国為替の学説に反論すると共に、貿易平衡論に基づいて金輸出の利益を指摘し、東インド会社を擁護している。
かつて東インド会社による金の輸出を貿易衰退の一因としていた著者が、このように転向したのは、彼が東インド会社と特殊な関係を持つに至ったためで、当時の論客の議論が個人的地位によって変わることの多かった一例として、注目に値する。
ミス・セルデン（マイセルデンとも呼ぶ）の両書は、古版経済書としても大変な稀覯書であると言える。
