神戸大学附属図書館におけるDXの推進
神戸大学附属図書館は、神戸大学が掲げる「KU VISION 2030」の実現に向け、教育・研究・社会連携を支える学術情報基盤として、デジタル技術を活用した図書館サービス及び業務全体のDX（デジタルトランスフォーメーション）を推進しています。
附属図書館におけるDXとは、単なる業務のデジタル化や効率化ではなく、学術情報基盤としての機能を強化し、学術情報へのアクセス向上や情報活用支援、研究成果の発信を通じて、利用者の学修・研究活動を支えるとともに、「知の広場」としての図書館活動を支える取り組みです。
(1)学術資源のデジタル化とオープンアクセス推進
附属図書館では、所蔵資料の保存と利活用を目的として、デジタルアーカイブの構築を進めており、「震災文庫」「新聞記事文庫」「神戸開港関係資料」をはじめ、貴重書・特殊コレクションをデジタル化し、公開しています。
特に新聞記事文庫では、画像だけでなく本文テキストデータも公開しており、研究利用や情報検索の利便性向上を図っています。
(2)デジタル化による利用者サービスの利便性向上
学生・教職員が必要な情報やサービスへ円滑にアクセスできるよう、利用者サービスのデジタル化を進めています。
主な取り組みとして、
- 各種申請手続きや情報検索・案内のオンライン化
- チャットレファレンスによる迅速で柔軟な利用者相談対応
- 利用者証バーコードのスマートフォン表示による入館
などを実施しています。
また、情報リテラシー教育にも力を入れており、図書館員が担当する全学共通科目「情報基礎」や文献検索ガイダンス等を通じて、学生・教職員の情報活用能力の向上を支援しています。
(3)図書館業務の効率化と高度化
附属図書館では、デジタル技術の活用により業務プロセスの改善を進め、効率的で持続可能な図書館運営を目指しています。また、業務の効率化と高度化により、利用者サービスや学修・研究支援のさらなる充実を図っています。
主な取り組みとして、
- Microsoft Teamsを活用した情報共有・協働の推進
- キャッシュレス決済の導入による利用者利便性の向上と業務効率化
- AI技術の活用による業務高度化・効率化
などを実施しています。
今後の展望
附属図書館は、これらの取り組みを通じて、教育・研究・社会連携を支える学術情報基盤としての機能強化を図っています。KU VISION 2030の実現に向け、今後もデジタルアーカイブの拡充、学術成果・研究データのオープンアクセス推進、AIやデータ活用によるサービス・業務の高度化、情報リテラシー教育の充実などに取り組み、利用者の学修・研究活動をより一層支援してまいります。
Promoting digital transformation (DX) at Kobe University Library
As an academic information infrastructure supporting education, research and social engagement, Kobe University Library is promoting digital transformation (DX) across its services and operations through the effective use of digital technologies in support of KU VISION 2030[JPN].
For the library, DX is not simply about digitizing operations or improving efficiency. Rather, it is an initiative to strengthen its role as an academic information infrastructure by improving access to scholarly information, supporting information literacy and utilization, and disseminating research achievements. Through these efforts, the library supports users’ learning and research activities while strengthening its role as a hub for knowledge exchange.
(1) Digitization of academic resources and promotion of open access
Kobe University Library is developing digital archives to preserve and promote the use of its collections. Materials such as the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection, the Newspaper Clippings Collection, the Documents on the Opening of the Port of Kobe and Special Collections have been digitized and made publicly available.
In particular, the Newspaper Clippings Collection provides not only images but also full-text data, improving accessibility and searchability for research purposes.
In addition, the library promotes open access and disseminates the university’s research output through its institutional repository, Kernel.
(2) Improving user convenience through digital services
The library is advancing the digitalization of user services to ensure that students and faculty/staff can access information and services more conveniently.
Major initiatives include:
- Online application procedures, information search services and user guidance
- Prompt and flexible user support through chat reference services
- Library entry using a library user ID barcode displayed on the user’s smartphone
The library also places a strong emphasis on information literacy education. Through the general education course “Introduction to Computer Literacy” and various information literacy and literature search guidance sessions conducted by library staff, the library helps students and faculty/staff develop their information literacy and information skills.
(3) Enhancing library operations through digital technologies
The library is improving operational processes through the use of digital technologies in order to achieve efficient and sustainable library management. By improving the efficiency and sophistication of its operations, the library is also enhancing user services and support for learning and research.
Major initiatives include:
- Promoting information sharing and collaboration through Microsoft Teams
- Improving user convenience and operational efficiency through cashless payment systems
- Enhancing and streamlining operations through the use of AI technologies
Future directions
Through these initiatives, Kobe University Library continues to strengthen its role as an academic information infrastructure supporting education, research and social engagement.
Looking ahead, the library will continue expanding its digital archives, promoting open access to research outputs and research data, enhancing services and operations through AI and data utilization and further strengthening information literacy education. Through these efforts, the library will further support the learning and research activities of its users.
